What is Women’s League and what do we do? The unofficial answer is that we serve to connect and support Jewish women with each other and with Jewish people worldwide. We do this in many ways but through it all we make new friends, network and most of all have a great deal of fun.
Women’s League for Conservative Judaism (WLCJ) was founded in 1918 by Mathilde Schecther and has grown into a movement that provides services to thousands of women and hundreds of women’s groups. WLCJ is the largest synagogue-based women’s organization worldwide. It is the network for all women who support our mission of enhancing Jewish knowledge, engaging in Jewish life, expanding communal involvement, and supporting klal Yisrael. It is for those who belong to affiliated sisterhoods and those who join directly.
The International Northeast Region (INR) of WLCJ is comprised of Ontario and Quebec in Canada and Upstate New York in the United States. Our mission is to serve as a connection between WLCJ and its affiliates and members, and to provide services to strengthen these Sisterhoods and Women’s Groups.
As members of WLCJ we also support Torah Fund, an arm of WLCJ that raises funds to support the Conservative Jewish Seminaries in New York, Los Angeles, Jerusalem, Buenos Aires and Potsdam, Germany. Torah Fund is essential for supporting the education of our conservative Rabbis, Cantors and Jewish Educators.
Ultimately we serve to support our affiliates and members to perpetuate Conservative/Masorti Judaism in the home, synagogue and community and reinforce their bonds with Israel and with Jews internationally.
